Ranging from social media to digital wallpapers, AI-Generated images has been spreading everywhere since its relevance rose to the digital world. Some of it may look stunning—other times, you know something just feels off. But how can you really tell if a piece of art was crafted by a genuine artist or by an algorithm fed by prompts?
For this blog, I am to going to provide you some steps and ways to sharpen your skills and abilities in detecting AI-generated slop swarming the digital world.

So, What is AI-Generated Imagery Anyway?
Basically, these type of images are made by computer programs (some examples include MidJourney and DALL-E) that creates images with the request of a user. If you type something bizarre like "a pig with wings", they will effortlessly generate it straight into your hands within a matter of seconds. Anything natural wasn't involved in the process, and instead the programs uses patterns of already existing data to forge something "new"
But Why Does This Matter?
Art has always been a way for people to express ideas, emotions, and stories. But now, with AI tools generating artwork in seconds, the line between human creativity and machine-made images is getting blurry. Some of this AI art looks amazing—but not all of it is honest.
Knowing how to tell the difference helps us give credit to real artists, spot fake content online, and better understand the tools shaping the future of creativity.
1.) What Do They Usually Look Like?
At first glance, AI art can look pretty amazing. The colors are vibrant, the lighting is dramatic, and the scene might feel straight out of a dream. But when you slow down and really look, there are usually small clues that give it away. Here are some factors to look out for whether an image is AI-Generated or not:
It looks too perfect: Everything might seem polished and glowing—but in a way that feels a little unreal, like a fantasy or video game.
Tiny things feel “off": Maybe a hand has too many fingers, or someone’s eyes aren’t quite lined up. You might not notice right away, but your brain picks up that something isn’t quite right.
Strange textures or patterns: Backgrounds can look melted or objects might blend into each other in weird ways. Sometimes, things repeat—like trees, buildings, or fabric patterns that look copy-pasted.
Text looks like gibberish: If the image includes a “signature” or signs, they’re often just squiggles or nonsense letters. AI can’t write text well (yet).
So if something catches your eyes but it something feels strangely off, it might just be an AI-generated image.
2.) Look Out For False Signatures
Many AI-generated artworks include what looks like a signature—but zoom in, and it’s just a jumble of letters or shapes. Artists usually sign clearly and consistently.

3.) Use Online Tools
Well if you wanna beat the machine, then use a machine! There are many online tools available out there that can detect AI-Generated imagery, but here are my personal recommendations when I try to detect whether an image is AI-Generated or not:

4.) Check The Source of the Image
If the image was posted online, always check who shared it. If there’s no artist name, no portfolio, or the account only posts perfect images with no background story, it might be fraudulent and AI-generated.
5.) Trust Your Guts (But Double Check)
Now for the last step. Sometimes the art just feels… off, but that’s okay. Trust that instinct, but back it up with some digging. As time goes on, AI-generated imagery just keeps getting better and better, but it still slips up in little ways that your brain can catch—even if you can’t explain how.
Conclusion
Although AI imagery can be beautiful, it just doesn't feel the same compared to human crafted work because of how soulless they are.
